Adobe Share Beta - Flex Document Manager

Posted on 7:30pm 2/17/2008 by Bruno Silva in Adobe, Software, Utilities, Web

Adobe has a web-based service in Beta stage that allows you to share documents. It is based on Flex technology. You upload your files, choose with whom you what to share them, and if you want them to be public (to everyone you give the direct URL).

Adobe Share Beta - Upload

Your files will be available in your library. You can preview your files, download them, share them or delete them.

Adobe Share Beta - Library

If you want you can share your public files by adding a link to the URL or by embedding the given code into your webpages (which shows a flash-enabled preview of the shared file).

Adobe Share Beta - Properties

The preview pane only works with images and PDF documents.

I just love the User Interface. It has the usual Adobe clean look&feel. According to this webpage the maximum space available to each user is 1Gb. A REST-based API is also available.

The current file formats which are supported are:

  • Microsoft Office 2003 and 2007 formats, Rich Text Format (RTF), Open Office formats, text, and PDF.
  • HTML
  • Adobe supported image formats: GIF, JPEG, BMP, PNG
  • Creative Suite file formats
  • SWF and Captivate formats
  • ZIP

Formats which were banned are:

  • Media: MP3, AAC, MOV, WMV, OGG, FLV, XVID, DIVX.
  • Fonts: TTF, DFONT, OTF
  • Archive: TGZ, 7Z, SIT
  • Executable files or script code: EXE, DLL, JAR, WAR, CAB, JS, VB

Quick Silver Screen

I’m still not sure about the legal issues when it comes to a service like this one… Online TV Shows, movies, etc. directly from this site to your browser, using a DivX plugin…

Meanwhile, enjoy while it is available. Has a pretty good collection, including the latest House M.D. episode. :D

Google Docs - Share document as a Form

Posted on 3:12pm 2/07/2008 by Bruno Silva in Freeware, Utilities, Web

New great service available!

Create a spreadsheet, define some fields in your table and then share this spreadsheet as a form that users can fill out. When they do that, they add a line to your spreadsheet. It is pretty simple to setup.

IExpress Wizard

Today I found about IExpress Wizard utility. It is built-in in Windows and allows to create self-extracting/installing packages.

iExpress Wizard

I won’t write down a tutorial. Since I learned how to use it by running it just one time, it is pretty easy. Choose your package name, include a prompt before install (if you want to), choose files, include a license agreement file (if wanted), choose a command to run after the extraction and enable a restart request if needed. A finished message can be customized.

To open the program, go to Start-Run and enter iexpress

Really useful to distribute small software packages and applications add-ons, and … well just use your imagination.

System Explorer

Posted on 8:59pm 1/03/2008 by Bruno Silva in Freeware, Software, Utilities

A simple application (that doesn’t require installation). Maybe it is old news, but I have only found out about this software today. Pretty nice because it gathers some (sometimes) useful information. The features list is “copy-pasted” from the website.

Features:

  • Detailed informations about Processes, Startups, Explorer, IE Addons, Uninstallers, Windows, Services, Drivers, Connections and Opened Files
  • Action History for monitoring processes activities
  • Making of Registry & Files snapshots for easy comparing of system changes. Result of comparation is displayed in tree view and text list. Can be used for analysation of product installers/uninstallers (like Total Uninstall)
  • Performance graphs for monitoring usage of system resources in time
  • Easy check of suspicious files via VirusTotal
  • Easy search details about file/process via online databases
  • Easy access to System Utilities

Pocket Contact Manager

PocketCM I’ve been looking at this application evolution since more that six months. It runs on Windows Mobile, it is freeware and brings to the tips of your fingers a little bit of the iPhone user-experience.It is a contact manager that replaces the default one and allows you to scroll your contacts with your finger. It allows sending SMS, creating a favorites list and adding pictures to your contacts. You can set different themes. My favorite is the black one in the side picture. Download it here.

Still based on the ideal of using your PDA only with your fingers you also can find a keyboard in this website. Download it here.

Nowadays I don’t use this software. I’m in a minimalistic phase as a windows mobile user. Only the essentials to have it working. (Qtek S200 performance made me took this decision).
