CamStudio - Open Source

During last month I had to record some demonstrations in my computer. I used the well known Camtasia Studio. Well, now the trial is ending, and I don’t want to buy this software :)

Today I found a nice software that can be used to achieve the same result. It is called CamStudio. You can record your screen while you perform some action like record an interaction with some software, record a presentation, etc. Then you can deploy it as an AVI file or flash video.

Maybe it isn’t new for many of you, but for those who haven’t ever heard about this software, give it a try.

  1. Great! Thanks for the hint ;)

  2. comment: hmmm, progress bar missing, to be able to navigate through swf movie. Do you know about http://www.jeroenwijering.com/?item=JW_FLV_Media_Player? I would like to play your movies using the player above (it also works with swf files) and it has progress bar. BUt when I try to do that, I get some strange lines inside movie. It is definitelly because of inproper stretching, but I do not know how to override that :(. Can U help me ?

  3. sorry - allmost forgot to mention: this is the best possible free software available. But still missing controls for interacting somewhere inside movie (like: next step, back step buttons). It is also missing different skins for standard buttons control and for download progress line. If you also include that, you will overrun some commercial programs available on the market…

  4. I tried the web player you talked about.
I was having the same problem as you.
Use Camstudio to generate the AVI file, then use another aplication to generate a FLV or SWF file.
    Like this one Riva
It worked fine for me :)
